Private Residence

#18035 (Yazoo County, MS)

Located on a rural road in Yazoo County, Mississipp, the Dent House (historically also known as the Kincaide plantation) was constructed in the 1840's.  At that time the current road didn't exist - the only access was via boats on the Yazoo River which lies only 100' to the rear (orignally the front) of the home.  The small (relative to many larger plantation homes) Greek Revival structure on a raised crawl foundation originally had four large external chimneys supporting fireplaces on both floors.   Ancestors of the current owner  obtained ownership in the 1860s and over the following 150(+) years many additons and changes occured.  The current design process endeavors to lift the home and move it about 50' further from the river.  In that process, we'll leave it in a raised basment condtion creating a new brick basement that is flexible for entertaining but also can withstand the occasional floor situation.
